If you enjoy hosting parties and entertaining family and friends,
incorporating a wet bar into your home design is a great idea. Before starting a wet bar remodel project, take into consideration location, layout, materials and accessories.
Location & Layout
Where is the best place in your home to install a wet bar? That really depends on where you most often entertain guests. Kitchens, great rooms, family rooms, game rooms, finished basements and outdoor spaces are all suitable places to add a wet bar. You will also want to decide on the bar
size and layout that works best for in the area. Straight, L-shaped, elliptical shaped and circular are all possibilities. Whatever location and layout you choose for your wet bar, make sure it matches the overall style and design of your home.
Materials
Many wet bars are made from wood or stainless steel. Wood provides a traditional look whereas stainless steel has a more modern undertone. The countertop is a focal point of the bar and there are many choices. Use marble, granite or quartz for an elegant, sophisticated look or stainless steel for a sleek, modern style. Cabinets are an essential component of your wet bar as they provide storage for liquor bottles, glasses and other barware. Consider glass front cabinets or open shelves to display decorative glassware and liquor bottles. Tile backsplash is another way to add an interesting accent to the bar. Tiles come in a variety of colors and patterns to fit the personality of the space.
Appliances & Accessories
Now that you have decided on the layout and materials for your wet bar, you need appliances and accessories.
Appliances are a functional part of the bar. More than likely you will want a refrigerator, ice maker and sink. A dishwasher is a nice addition if the bar is not near the kitchen. Other fun appliances are a wine refrigerator and keg tap. The style of lighting is important to set the right mood for the area. You can even install a TV or stereo system in your bar for entertainment.
