The “unfitted design” for a kitchen of mixing wood species and finishes is still popular. Once thought a fad that would fade away is here to stay. The best examples are found in larger kitchens to break up the look. Often the island boasts a different finish. Different can mean lighter and darker stains, painted and stained, or varying wood type or door detail. Also, this material change is not limited to just cabinetry, different stone pieces can be used for countertops.
