Solar Powered Skylights have been increasing in popularity. A solar panel captures any available daylight and uses it to recharge a highly efficient, fully concealed, battery powered operator and control system. Another advantage to a solar powered skylight is that an electrician is not required for the installation. No wires, circuits or keypads needs. The skylight is operated through a touch pad remote. The Velux Fresh Air skylight series have a built in rain sensor. These units will automatically close when it starts to rain.
The battery powered operator is the power source that opens and closes the skylight and the solar panel serves as the charging source of the system. Velux currently offers a $200 rebate on their “No Leak Solar Powered Fresh Air Skylights” if purchased from an authorized Velux distributor between June 1st, 2014 and August 15th, 2014. The maximum rebate is $599 per household. Velux also reports that most homeowners will qualify for a 30% tax credit on their purchase of solar powered skylights.
Skylight options can be found in the DBP Home Shopping Store.
