They’re a great way to emphasize the connection to nature, they can be used in connection with rustic, as well as modern designs, and they’re soft and friendly on the feet.

So, when redesigning your bathroom, you could do no better than using river rock pebbles for your shower. You can use the same tiles on the walls too, or at least on one of them. Before you get carried away, take a few moments to think and picture the room – since this will typically be a rather small space, adding too many shapes and colors may turn out to be just too much, and you’ll be better off with simpler walls in a solid color.

Cleaning the Surfaces

The biggest deterrent to getting river rock pebbles for your shower is the cleaning. Indeed, it requires a bit more effort than cleaning regular tiles – absolutely worth it, both for the looks and for the feel you’ll get.

Still, it’s a good idea to research and know what you’re getting yourself into before installing the pebble tiles in your bathroom, so keep in mind that they have a lot of grout. It’s highly recommended to use an epoxy grout, or a grout additive as sealer. In some cases, floors may require re-sealing after a certain period of time. Make sure you discuss your options with the contractor.

Do avoid using acid solutions. If you have any doubts, especially when purchasing a new brand of ultra-strong cleaner, test it out in an inconspicuous corner. It’s important to leave the floors dry or almost dry – so if you want river rock pebbles for your shower, the room has to have plenty of air and light to allow any water accumulation to dry out quickly. (And, needless to say, the drainage should be at the lower point of the floor, and permanently unobstructed – it’s such a common mistake to neglect it, and it can have quite unpleasant consequences over time.)

Do It Yourself?

However, it’s worth stressing that it’s in no way a project for newbies; if you’ve never laid out tiles in your life, then it’s not worth the risk.

If this does become a DIY project, it can be extremely rewarding. You can treat it like a jigsaw puzzle (actually, you should treat it like a jigsaw and make sure the patterns and colors match, before installing it), and you can add all sorts of accents and unusual touches – different colors, different shapes, even a few shells, if you so fancy.
