When you start to do your research for your next bedroom or master suite addition, you’ll learn there are several things that can go in a much different direction compared to when you’re putting an addition onto something like your living room, for example. The unfortunate part though, is that it’s very difficult to give an estimate of a master suite addition, without first knowing a whole lot more about what it is that you’re actually looking for.
Know What You Want In Your Master Suite
The first and most important thing is to know what you want and how to explain it clearly. Some people have very specific needs when it comes to their master suite and try to hide those needs initially from their contractor, thinking it will make their contractor not want to work with them.
This is a very poor way to look at things though, because that will only end up costing you a whole lot more money in the long run. By doing things that way, they may spend days doing the work wrong, until you tell them about all the small little things that you actually need, and they’ll have to go back and fix things, costing them time and you money.
You May Need to Move Out Temporarily
Another important aspect to keep in mind is that you won’t be able to use your master suite while an addition is being added on to it. This either means you will have to sleep in another area of your home, or stay in a hotel or with a friend or family member until it is completed. There are some cases where you can still sleep in the room at night during the remodeling, but many people find the dust particles that may be floating around to be detrimental to getting a good night’s sleep.
You Get What You Pay For
Finally, and this is probably obvious but needs to be said – size and luxury costs money. If you want to go bigger, you’re going to pay for it. If you want to go better you’re going to pay for it. We always recommend that if you feel you’re ever going to want to go bigger down the road, it’s better to just do it now, all at once. It will be exponentially more expensive to go back in and put another addition onto your master suite, than it would be to just do it all from the beginning.
NJ Master Suite Addition Costs
As we noted above, there are dozens of factors that go into any home renovation project or home addition that make it difficult to say exactly what it’s going to cost. However, we at Design Build Planners have done our best to provide you with estimated costs of master suite additions in NJ. You can learn more about the costs and the details on our Remodeling Estimates page.
In general, for a basic master suite addition, you can expect to pay in the neighborhood of $108,000. For an upscale master suite addition, you can expect to pay in the range of $230,000. These are the prices you can expect to pay for a quality remodeling contractor in New Jersey.
The best part about working with Design Build Planners is that one of the first things we do during the remodeling estimate meeting is identify a realistic budget based on your dream project and the reality of your financial situation. This way, we have your budget in mind during the entire design process, so the designs that we provide to you are all feasible. Contrast this to working with an architect first, where the architect will have no problem designing your dream master suite, but then when you go to a remodeling contractor for estimates, you learn that it’s way above your price range.
We welcome you to contact the Design Build Planners to ask a few questions or to get started with your remodeling process. Whether you have a master suite addition in mind, or whether you’re looking for a new kitchen, bathroom, basement, or outdoor area, we look forward to helping you make the most educated decisions possible for you, your family, and your home.
