Design Build Planners recently interviewed Moira Youmans of Decorating By Moira. Moira lives at the Jersey Shore. She has provided window treatments for DBP projects throughout New Jersey.
Q: What is the popular type or style of window treatment requested currently?
A: I find down the shore more folks are doing more cordless Fabric Roman Shades, which I just love! Not only are they functional, provide privacy, kid friendly, they can easily transform a room simply by choosing the perfect fabric to coordinate with your current furnishings or they can be the focus of the entire room by using a bold fabric, either way, they are a win-win for most decors. I’m also doing a number of shutters, which are always a classic!
Q: What is your favorite show on HGTV?
A: Love It or List It, I just love when a homeowner falls in love with their home again, to me that’s the best part of my job, I can relate and it’s just so rewarding!
Q: What is the strangest design request a customer ever asked you for?
A: Before having a Dog, a client asked me to make their home Dog friendly! I’ve made a number of homes kid friendly, ease of use for the elderly, but I thought it odd at first to design a home around a dog. Since then we now have a Labradoodle named Lola, so now I totally get it! I myself just had an extra wide window seat built for my Lola to either sit and look out or take a nap while she waits for me to return from a client’s home!
Q: How would describe your personal remodeling style preference?
A: You know it’s funny being in the business and moving as many times as we have, my tastes have changed throughout the years. I would say our next home I would do primarily as a Coastal Resort, relaxed, carefree and easy to upkeep.
Q: What advice would you offer a homeowner that is planning to design a room in their home?
A: If you plan on using any fabrics in your room either on the windows or furniture, pick them first, fall in love with your fabrics and you’ll see how easy it will be to decide on a paint color, trust me, it’s the fabrics that will make you smile every time you walk into your room not your walls!
BONUS QUESTION: What is your one favorite part about living at the Jersey Shore?
A: The best part about living down the shore, we feel like we are on a permanent vacation, nothing like going out on a boat ride when you get home from work during the week, or just taking a walk on the beach to make all your troubles just disappear!
