New Jersey homeowner Lisa desperately wanted to remodel her kitchen to make it more modern and functional, but she couldn’t find a reliable local contractor she trusted. We are fortunate to have connected with Lisa on Houzz and work with her in designing and facilitating her much-anticipated project.
One of the reasons Lisa didn’t start this project sooner, other than not personally knowing any kitchen designers or remodeling contractors, was that she felt overwhelmed by the size of the project. The Design Build Planners model fit her personality well, as she really valued being able to see her newly remodeled kitchen in 3D Color CAD images before the project began.

Creative Use of Space
Lisa’s New Powder Room
The scope of the project included a complete kitchen remodel and transforming the existing laundry room into a mud room and powder room.
To create more space for Lisa’s new kitchen, we took some extra space from the existing sunroom. Stealing space from an adjacent room is often a great solution when the homeowner either doesn’t want to or isn’t able to add on to the house. In fact, we love the creative challenge of finding space that the homeowner didn’t know existed.
The old kitchen was dark and closed off from the remainder of the house. To create the new open layout kitchen, we removed some walls, reconfigured the appliances, and added a kitchen island complete with a 4-burner stove with flat top griddle and a pot filler faucet.
The mix of dark and light colors, along with different textures, creates a modern, sophisticated look that Lisa and her family will enjoy for many years. With the addition of the small but stylish powder room on the first floor, Lisa is now ready to entertain friends and family as much as she wants.

Lisa’s new kitchen was inspired by her research on Houzz and her in-home consultation with Design Build Planners. When we first met with Lisa, we spent time going through our proprietary profile checklist that provides us with insight about her lifestyle and design preferences.
With that information, we are able to develop a design concept that aligns with the homeowner’s budget, timeframe, and overall goals for the new project.
