“The most important aspect for remodeling your home is to have the look and feel that works best for you.” – Kathi Fleck, Renovate, Remodel… Relax!

Design trends are always shifting gears, as the market changes. This can be expected, as new ideas and materials are formed. However, some trends seem to stay around, no matter what else is going on. Here are 5 kitchen design trends with staying power, along with some of the reasons why they’re great options.

Built-In Kitchen Pantry

Kitchen Design Trends With Staying Power (2)Built-ins can really save space, especially with something as large as a pantry. It’s a high necessity item, so it has to go somewhere. But it doesn’t have to take up the entire kitchen. Working with your contractor for a built-in pantry option creates a sleeker design that doesn’t take away from the available space. Because you can never have too much room to move around in a kitchen, this trend will likely have tons of staying power over the years.

Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is shiny and if kept clean, it always looks brand new, which is of course a popular choice in the kitchen. This area needs to be clean all the time and when shiny appliances and countertops are added to a well kept kitchen, the appearance can be stunningly sharp. Stainless steel is also easy to maintain, which is a must, whether you have tiny little hands smudging it up or not. But, if you have a family, fast cleaning solutions are a necessity.

Neolith Countertop Material

Neolith countertop material is a fairly new trend in kitchen design. But because of the quality and desire, it will likely be around for quite some time. Kitchen designers quickly discovered that neolith countertops won’t shatter, burn, stain, or crack. These are highly desirable traits in any kitchen. It’s also more affordable than one might think when factoring in the long-lasting features. This porcelain surface is all-natural, which makes it even more desirable for those who wish to avoid overly-manufactured options. It’s also non-porous, which aids in the prevention of mold, mildew, and bacteria buildup.

Kitchen Design Trends With Staying PowerU-Shaped Layout

A U-shaped layout keeps everything within reach, while providing ample space to move around. Functionality is important in just about every kitchen and the u shape allows free movement in between cooking and prep areas. Many people are also attracted to the open look of this ever-popular kitchen design. While islands can come in handy in some instances, an open U-shape helps avoid people tripping over bulky items while cooking.

Galley Layouts

Great for small spaces, galley kitchens have been a design solution for many years. Small, well-designed galley kitchens can be both functional and efficient. This is very handy when dealing with tiny spaces. However, galley kitchens also work for large spaces and dining halls. This design has long been a kitchen trend in both business and residential applications for its flexibility and functionality. These layouts need not be completely closed in either, as an opening can be made on one wall to the rest of the living space. Galley layouts with such openings are especially good for chefs that want to show off their cooking to the guests.
