This is AnnahMarie and Becca.
Today, Organic Gurlz Gardens of Fort Wayne, Indiana will be sharing information on How To Wash and Whiten Bed Pillows.
Aggravated with yellowish pillows? Does your wallet bawl when you reach for factory-made “whiteners”? Have you suffered limping to the store and purchasing new pillows because the old ones are too humiliating to place on a guest’s bed?
Don’t feel alone; we at Organic Gurlz Gardens have experienced this dilemma many times before.
With the technique shared out of the few methods we have discovered over the years, don’t worry about buying a new pillow each time you have company!
One of our top techniques
What we use:
- 1 ½ cup of hydrogen peroxide
- ½ cup of baking soda
- Laundry detergent (For actually washing the pillows)
- Borax
Take those oh-so-dingy bed pillows and put them in the washing machine; set to soak.
**We at Organic Gurlz Gardens practice washing two pillows at a time. This balances the washing machine so they clean evenly. We also make sure that the load is only pillows. **
Next, we supplement the hydrogen peroxide and baking soda to the cylinder of the washing machine. Hydrogen peroxide is a “raw” whitener, and baking soda makes face-to-face confrontations with deep-rooted stains.
After the soak cycle has run, we wash the pillows with our regular liquid detergent along with the borax just as if the cushions were clothing!
For drying, we use this method – it “livens up” the pillows!
A new twist on dryer sheets from Becca:
As a busy mom and “taxi” of the household, I completely understand the hassle of scurrying to the store only to pick up factory-made dryer sheets. After all, this adds unwanted stress and is a waste of gas.
Bypass the conventional method! Do it the organic way ~ organic solutions! Besides, who needs the extra pressure?
You can add a drop or two of essential oils (such as Lemon balm, Mint, and Lavender) to a cloth and then throw it in the dryer with your dampened clothes ~ organic dryer sheets! We at Organic Gurlz Gardens strongly suggest this method since it is much more Earth-friendly than scented dryer sheets. Plus, it can save some money!
