Today, Organic Gurlz Gardens of Fort Wayne, Indiana will be sharing information on How to Repel Mosquitoes from Your Yard Using Herbs.
Mosquitoes, are the “vampires” of the bug world. They are notorious for their bites – with the itching and scratching and those O-so-ugly lumps. Worse yet, they could carry diseases like the West Nile Virus.
Don’t fret over these blood suckers, let Organic Gurlz Gardens supply you with the herbs you need!
Unless you only want to enjoy your yard on summer evenings from your sunroom, try some of these natural herbal remedies for a mosquito repellent.
Lemon Balm:
Lemon Balm is great for repelling Mosquitoes – Or any bug for that matter.
To use, just pick off a leave from your garden and rub on your skin. The lemon scent is quite strong (But lovely) and bugs would rather not stick around. And, at the same time you are shooing away “bad” bugs, you will be attracting Bees and Butterflies! (Sounds like a win-win J)
There is nothing like Fresh Herbs in your Organic Garden!

Cat Nip:
Sorry Kitty, but this herb is not for you.
The natural oils within Cat nip leaves have been proven in various studies to be ten times more effective than DEET at repelling mosquitoes. (Wow…Cool!)O.G.G. suggests to plant catnip indoors or around your patio, but remember while you’re repelling mosquitoes, you just might be attracting some of your feline friends!
Basil:
No, this herb is not just used for cooking.
Although many think this herb is only good at adding some flavor and color to dishes, Basil is so much more.
Since there are many varieties of basil, it may be hard to choose what to pick. Organic Gurlz Gardens suggest using the most mosquito-repelling types which include lemon basil and cinnamon basil
(There are plenty more, but these two types of Basil are a great start.)
So remember, Herbs aren’t just for yummy dishes or your kitty friend, they are jam-packed with amazing uses.
