Today, Organic Gurlz Gardens of Indiana will be sharing information on How to Handle Hiccups.
Let’s face it- hiccups are almost as bad as mosquito bites, and can come at the worst of times. We are here to show how to kick this nuisance to the curb, with a bit on how we get the hiccups in the first place.
How we get hiccups-
When air rushes in and hits your voice box, your vocal cords close abruptly in panic and you’re left with an agitating hiccup. Some things that annoy the diaphragm are – eating too quickly or too much, an irritation in the stomach or the throat, or feeling nervous/excited.
Drink water with ears plugged-
In order to accomplish this task efficiently, drink a full glass of water through a straw, while plugging your ears. It seems comical, but this method may just help ease the hiccups.
Eat something sweet or sour-
Consuming something like a banana, granny smith apple, or honey can suppress and even eliminate hiccups.
**Tip from Becca of Organic Gurlz Gardens – Another ‘sweet’ technique is to place some coconut sugar underneath the tongue and let it saturate. Don’t put 3 tablespoons in there, just a modest pinch will do. **
Gargle salt water-
No need to hop in the ocean for this one!
Supplement a teaspoon of kosher salt into 8 oz. of water and stir until the salt almost dissolves. Then, gargle the solution like you would mouthwash.
Pull out your tongue-
This may not be appropriate in the most formal setting, but pulling out your tongue may stimulate your nerves and calm down your hiccups.
