“The most important aspect for remodeling your home is to have the look and feel that works best for you.” – Kathi Fleck, Renovate, Remodel… Relax!
With the new year come new beginnings. If you’ve been following home design reality TV shows and consistently adding to your Pinterest “Dream home” board for the past few months, or even years; 2018 may be the year you’re ready to make those updates you’ve been dreaming of.
Now that this year’s Color of the Year has been announced by Pantone, it’s time to think about broader design trends for the year. With the help of Houzz, we’ve compiled predictions for 2018’s top home remodeling design trends. Here’s what you can expect to see:
Color
If your Pinterest board is filled with the clean and crisp look of white kitchens, fear not – white kitchens are still on-trend! But, Houzz predicts that dark jewel tone hues like grays and blues are expected to gain in popularity. These deeper colors are perfect for those looking to enhance their current home design or bring a bold element to their residential renovation.
Expect to see Black, Navy, Emerald green or possibly Plumb on kitchen cabinets, bathroom accent walls and living areas.
Sinks
Dark-hued sinks made of concrete, stone, and copper will start to trend more than white or stainless steel sinks.
Trough and bucket sinks could be more popular, especially as the modern farmhouse trend persists.
Details
If you’re big on modern and industrial home design, Houzz anticipates concrete will be seen more in the home, showcased in decorative accents, furniture, and tile.
For those who love to express themselves through big, bold prints, 2018 is your year! Floral prints are trending, particularly high-contrast colors and huge blooms. To see some home design projects with this detail in play, click here.
Though home design is progressing, it’s still gathering inspiration from former decades. Vintage-style lights, like aged copper pendants, will continue to gain traction, according to Houzz.
If you’ve been wanting to update your backsplash, but have been uncertain on what material to go with, you’re gonna love what 2018 has in store! Houzz reveals that there’s a new tile that resembles wood, fabric, and wallpaper. It’s called wallpaper-esque and it’s perfect for those looking for a visual punch that can be easily swapped out.
Expect neutrals and borderline minimalist furnishings in bedrooms for 2018 instead of more ornate spaces. Bedroom home design is all about relaxation this year. Less is more.
