This Bergen County, New Jersey family wanted to remodel their basement to accommodate a multi generational living situation. Their main request was to make the space feel like an apartment more so than a standard basement remodel. A consideration in the planning was that as the younger family grew, they could “swap” living spaces. The Design Build Planners created designs for the basement remodel. Cornerstone Builders Group is building and managing the project. To the right is a dollhouse overview of the project.
The homeowners drew their inspiration from basement remodeling projects featured on Houzz.com. The design options are a result of homeowners online research combined with an in-home consultation with Design Build Planners. There is also a proprietary profile checklist that homeowners fill out that depicts their lifestyle and room use. After compiling this information, Design Build Planners incorporates their construction knowledge and design creativity for the space with a focus on the budget and overall investment. Here is a sampling of some of their Houzz Ideabook pictures.
Below are a couple photos of the existing basement. Also below are the final computer designs created by Jason Parsons, a Certified Kitchen and Bath Remodeler. Options without the fireplace built ins, and adding drywall ceiling are shown for the apartment suite like basement remodel. Follow along with the project’s progress as photos will be added.
