The Ocean County, New Jersey homeowners wanted to make widespread changes to their home. This included projects in the kitchen, living room, bathroom, the exterior, and three bedrooms. One of the bedrooms was to be converted into a Caregiver’s Suite. They hired Design Build Planners for the design build remodel project. Pictured to the right is a dollhouse overview of the project.
Here is the overview of the design build remodeling scope:
Kitchen
- Redesign Kitchen as drawn
- Recess cabinetry and laundry area into living room (includes pet station)
- Add porch space to the kitchen
- Add tall storage on the back of the chimney wall (narrower than plan 1)
- Enlarge the opening to the dining area
- Add island with seating
- Enlarge the door to the sunroom
- New hood and stainless appliances
- Tile Flooring
- Stained cabinets
- Lighting per plan
Living room
- Re-face fireplace and mantle with engineered stone
- Add mantle and mount TV
- New wood floor
Bedroom 1
- Located in new space approximately 29’ (front to back) x 16’ (from house)
- Relocate entrance door
- Add walk in closet (larger than Plan 1)
- Hardwood floor
- Vaulted ceiling
Bedroom 1-bath
- Add new accessible bathroom including 2 sinks, toilet and shower
- Custom bench seat in shower
- Zero clearance threshold floor and drain in the shower
- Center storage in vanity
- Tile on shower walls to ceiling, non-wet walls to 4’
- Pocket door to maximize space
Caregiver’s Suite
- Convert front bedroom to Caregiver’s suite
- Space to include: sleeping area, sitting/reading space, standard closet
- Makeover existing bathroom in current space
- Carpet in room and closet
- Ceiling fan
Bedroom 3
- Add bonus area approximately 6’6” (front to back) x 16’ (from house)
- Vaulted ceiling in new space
- Hardwood in new space
Exterior
- Match siding as close as possible
- Match roofing as close as possible
The homeowners drew their inspiration from kitchen projects featured on Houzz.com. The design options are a result of homeowners online research combined with an in-home consultation with Design Build Planners. There is also a proprietary profile checklist that homeowners fill out that depicts their lifestyle and room usage. After compiling this information, Design Build Planners incorporates their construction knowledge and design creativity for the space with a focus on the budget and overall investment.
