The Kendall Park, New Jersey homeowners sought to make a few changes in their home, mostly centered around a bedroom suite kitchen remodel. They want a bigger, better kitchen that will suit daily meals as well as entertaining family and friends. The homeowners also wanted to extend their existing master bedroom over the existing garage. They hired Design Build Planners to create a bedroom suite and kitchen remodel design. To the right is a dollhouse overview of the project.
In addition to the bedroom suite and kitchen remodel, the Kendall Park NJ homeowners also made changes to the laundry/mudroom, garage/front of home, and the master bedroom.
Here is the overview of the remodeling design scope.
Kitchen
- Remove wall from kitchen to family room and part of living room (new flush header)
- Fill in living room doorway to a pass through
- Build new wall to living room
- Build a walk-in pantry
- Remove the rear windows from the family room
- Combine two rear windows to a patio door (new header)
- Relocate kitchen to family room area as drawn
- Sink at new rear window
- Appliances: two built in ovens, microwave drawer, 36” cooktop, 36” hood, counter depth French door refrigerator reuse existing dishwasher and wine refrigerator
- Island with seating for four
- Tall pantry storage

- Extend master suite over the existing garage and laundry room
- Build two walk in closets
- Relocate front two-section casement, add a three-section to the front to match the existing one, add an egress casement on the side

Master Bath
- Relocate bath door
- Relocate tub and enlarge it
- Add new shower with dual bench seats and glass partition
- Dual rain head and hand held fixtures
- Wide niche on rear wall of shower

- Tile main floor, tub walls to 48”, and exterior wall to ceiling

The homeowners style preferences were for a contemporary look. They drew their inspiration from kitchen projects featured on Houzz.com. The design options are a result of homeowners online research combined with an in-home consultation with Design Build Planners. There is also a proprietary profile checklist that homeowners fill out that depicts their lifestyle and room usage. After compiling this information, Design Build Planners incorporates their construction knowledge and design creativity for the space with a focus on the budget and overall investment.
