The Atlantic, New Jersey homeowners faced a similar situation to many New Jersey homeowners. They had an existing, unfinished basement. The basement was a large space, but it was not even being used for storage…The basement was barren. They hired Design Build Planners to create the basement of their dreams, fully included with various entertainment and game options. To the right is a dollhouse overview of the project.
The plan to finish the basement began with adding a complete, three fixture bathroom. In addition to the bathroom, the following were added:
- Wet Bar
- Gas Fireplace
- Storage Closet
- Utility Area
- Storage Area
Next, the stairs were opened up to one side, and a railing was inserted in this area. Epoxy coating was done for the basement’s floor and tile was installed in the bathroom.

The homeowners wanted to turn an unused space into a comforting retreat. They drew their inspiration from remodeling projects featured on Houzz.com. The design options are a result of homeowners online research combined with an in-home consultation with Design Build Planners. There is also a proprietary profile checklist that homeowners fill out that depicts their lifestyle and basement use. After compiling this information, Design Build Planners incorporates their construction knowledge and design creativity for the space with a focus on the budget and overall investment.
