These Monmouth County, New Jersey homeowners wanted to maximize the use of a large walk up attic over his kitchen family room. They contacted the Design Build Planners for ideas, and this fifth bedroom suite was the perfect solution. Ideal for an in-law space or live-in nanny, it is located right off the kitchen. It features a private bedroom, a ¾ bath with a custom level entry shower, and a semi private living area. The existing stairway is wide enough to allow for a chair lift should accessibility be a concern further down the road. To aide in the access to the area, a wall will be opened up to the kitchen, and the laundry area will be relocated off the existing garage.
This new space is not just functional; it is a sound investment. Adding living space, as well as an additional bedroom and bathroom in this semi-private suite style is an amenity more and more prospective homebuyers are looking for.
The homeowners drew their inspiration from remodeling projects featured on Houzz.com. The design options are a result of homeowners online research combined with an in-home consultation with Design Build Planners. There is also a proprietary profile checklist that homeowners fill out that depicts their lifestyle and room use. After compiling this information, Design Build Planners incorporates their construction knowledge and design creativity for the space with a focus on the budget and overall investment.
Below are a couple of before photos of the existing space. Also below are the final computer designs created by Jason Parsons, a Certified Kitchen and Bath Remodeler. Follow along with the project’s progress as photos will be added.
