Addition Design in Union County NJ

DollhouseThe Union County, New Jersey homeowners needed extra space for an in law suite. In order to accommodate for the new members of the home, the homeowners also opted to enlarge their kitchen. In addition to this, they also added a deck and some extra space to the lower level utility room. With plenty of work already ongoing in the house, the homeowners also elected to make some aesthetic upgrades to the master bedroom. They hired Design Build Planners to create a these remodeling designs. To the right is a dollhouse overview of the project.

Here is the overview of the remodeling design scope:

Additions

  • Add an addition approximately 15 x 15 and 18 x 7 to the rear main level to enlarge the kitchen and add an inlaw suite
  • Add an addition approximately 4 x 10 to the lower level utility room
  • Add an addition over the kitchen, dining room, and in law suite in order to create a master suite
  • Add a deck of approximately 15 X 14 with composite decking and vinyl rails
  • Dual-direction stairs from the deck to the yard
  • Siding to match existing as close as possible for the rear and the sides
  • New shake style siding on the front of the home with new shutters
  • Roofing to match existing as close as possible

In-Law Suite

  • Bedroom with standard closet
  • 2 double hung windows facing the rear
  • Carpeting
  • Accessible three fixture bath with 0 threshold shower
  • Tile on shower and bath floor, wet walls to the ceiling and non wet walls to 4′

Kitchen

  • New layout per plan
  • Appliances: double oven, 36″ cooktop, stainless hood, under counter microwave, counter depth French door refrigerator, dishwasher
  • Double sink in peninsula
  • Seating for three at peninsula
  • Tall pantry storage
  • Dark Cherry Cabinets
  • Glass backsplash
  • Wood flooring
  • Super white granite
  • Recessed and hanging light as per plan

Option A

  • Convert in law suite to family room
  • Alter peninsula to island and change counter
  • Extend kitchen hardwood
  • Change rear access and extend deck

Master Bedroom

  • Add half set of stairs in the linen closet location
  • Landry entry in the new space
  • His and her walk in closets with closet systems
  • Columns in master bedroom
  • Vault main area of bedroom to 10′
  • 4 fixture bath with private water closet
  • Tile in shower area to the ceiling, tile on shower, bath, and water closet floors
  • 2 windows in master bedroom
  • 1 awning window in the master bath
  • Lighting per plan

The homeowners drew their inspiration from kitchen projects featured on Houzz.com. The design options are a result of homeowners online research combined with an in-home consultation with Design Build Planners. There is also a proprietary profile checklist that homeowners fill out that depicts their lifestyle and room use. After compiling this information, Design Build Planners incorporates their construction knowledge and design creativity for the space with a focus on the budget and overall investment.
